The Best Dog-Friendly Beaches in Mallorca, Spain

Updated On: October 11, 2024 | Published On: September 24, 2020

Mallorca's government has a strict no pet policy on most of the Island's beaches between March 31st and November 1st. The rules become relaxed during the winter but there are a handful of beaches designated as pet friendly all year round. They are all remote and require some planning and a packed lunch but it is well worth it to see your four-legged companions tearing along the sand having the time of their lives!

Alcanada, Alcudia

Set below the famous Alcanada Golf Course is the newest addition to Mallorca's dog-friendly beaches, Alcanada beach. Popular with Camper Vans this beach offers plenty of shade beneath the pine trees defiantly growing in the sand. There is plenty of parking, the water is clean, there are idyllic views of the Alcanada lighthouse set on its own little island. What are you waiting for?

Llenaire, Puerto Pollensa

Another north coast beach, this time in the bay of Pollenca, Llenaire is only 20 minutes walking from the Port of Pollenca. Fringed by a grassy park with plenty of trees for shade you can spend the whole day here during the hot summer months, snoozing with your pooch under a pine tree with regular dips in the sea to cool off. There are plenty of beach bars and shops lining the vast sandy beach of Pollenca to make a full day of it.

Na Patana, Santa Margalida

The beautiful long sandy beaches of the north coast include Na Patana. A stunning location with easy access situated between Can Picafort and Santa Margalida. The water is crystal clear with unspoiled views across the Alcudia Bay, the beach is bordered by sand dunes and hiking trails.

Cala Blanca, Andratx

The south coast of Mallorca is the epicenter of the tourist developments. However, only 5 minutes driving from Port D'Andratx or Es Camp De Mar is a secret bay where the anchored boats outnumber the people on the beach. Although geographically close to the towns, Cala Blanca is remote and wild, and all the better for it! Make sure you bring plenty of supplies as there are no services available without getting back in the car.

Es Carnatge, Palma

Last, but by no means least,  is Es Carnatge. Located along the beautiful coastal path, or Paseo Maritimo, between Palma and Arenal is an easy to access dog-friendly beach frequented by locals all year round. You will enjoy the meandering walk along the calas and fishing harbors from either direction with a quick dip as your pup runs around the sand with all the other dogs. Access is easy and parking can be as close or as far as you like. The beach is far from peaceful though, located just off the Palma Airport runway it makes for a great place to watch all the planes coming in.

Out of season

At the time of publishing, from November 1st to March 31st rules regarding pets on the beach are relaxed and the majority of beaches become dog-friendly. It isn’t uncommon to see dogs enjoying the sand and sea all winter long, however, make sure to bring plenty of water, as a lot of resort towns close for the winter, so finding a shop open can be quite tricky. As a friendly reminder, it is all pet-owners responsibility to clean up after their pet, failing to do so can result in a hefty fine.
